The Nerds are taking over, & it's about time.
I'm an avid comic book collector, and have been for quite some time. When I first started, I was bullied mercilessly. It was something you didn't really mention to anyone. I was called baby mind, nerd, dweeb, and alot worse. But I didn't stop. As time went on, it was the same situation. In 2007, everything changed. Due in part of the first trailer of a movie starring Robert Downey Jr. called Iron Man. At the time, the Iron Man comic books were not very popular, but the trailer being shown at San Diego Comic-Con set off a pop culture explosion. Geek culture became the culture of the day. TV shows were coming from sci-fi books and comic books from DC & Marvel. A majority of the big blockbuster movies were comic book movies. Science became cool on reality tv. The things I was passionate about, and got teased about, are considered very cool now. Being called a Star Wars geek is a proud moniker now. And I love it. I am a geek. I might not look like one, but I proudly am one. I'm an Otaku, comic book nerd, and comic book convention goer. It keeps me sane in a very stressful world. We live in a more open minded time where geek culture is embraced. Let your geek flag fly. It's a great thing. Try new things like going to an anime or comic book convention. Visit your local comic book store. Hit up free viewings of cool movies at a movie theater. Take up table top gaming. People from all walks of life are into these type of activities. I have made tons of friends just joining an anime club.
So if you are considered a geek, you are awesome. You are unique in a very positive way. This is your time. Embrace it. Everyone else is. The world is yours.
